Position Summary

The MacPháidín Library at Stonehill College is in search of a forward-thinking professional with the skill and passion to provide stellar reference services. We are looking for someone to provide engaging information literacy instruction that incorporates emerging technologies and subject fields as appropriate; develop, manage, and enhance relevant instructional resources and libguides; liaise with designated departments; collaborate effectively with library and campus colleagues; gather and analyze library statistics; and collaborate in collection development, including OER resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Engage students:

  • Assist in the use of library services and a range of print and electronic resources.
  • Teach introductory, advanced, and specialized bibliographic instruction classes.
  • Provide rigorous one-on-one research assistance for both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Curate a robust and relevant set of research guides for effective asynchronous student guidance.

Instructional Design:

  • Integrate reference services into learning management systems.
  • Design information literacy sessions and research assignments in collaboration with faculty.
  • Develop, expand, and enrich both online and in-person library instruction for specific subjects.

Assessment:

  • Gather data, analyze, and make recommendations to continually improve reference services and reference resources.

Collection Development:

  • Evaluate print, electronic, and OER resources.
  • Help optimize library collections by assessing needs, making recommendations for purchase, and regularly weeding to maintain a high-use collection.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in professional development activities such as specialized training, professional conferences, webinars, and seminars.
  • Introduce innovations and manage improvements to existing departmental programs and procedures.
  • Monitor developments in the field of Information literacy and instructional design to remain current on effective strategies and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • Master’s degree in library science/information science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Two-plus years of work/teaching experience relevant to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative.
  • Ability to foster campus-wide collaborations and work as a team.
  • An undergraduate degree in a science-related field is preferred.
  • Experience with health sciences/nursing librarianship is desirable.
  • Familiarity with SpringShare or equivalent desirable.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
