Job description

The Librarian for Systems and E-Resources will oversee the access, metadata, administration, statistics, reporting, troubleshooting, and support for all electronic resources acquired and maintained by the law library. The successful candidate will ensure optimal access and usability of subscription resources, including databases, electronic journals, and electronic books. They will also serve as a system administrator for core library systems, including Ex Libris' Alma/Primo and LibApps. In addition, the Librarian for Systems and E-Resources will lead the work of the Law Library's institutional repository.

As the in-house expert on all matters pertaining to the LSP, the successful candidate will provide expertise and work collaboratively with staff across the Library. An ongoing project for this position is the current migration from the law library’s ILS, Innovative’s Sierra, Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE in a shared environment with the University Library. The successful candidate will actively engage in discussions with stakeholders regarding migration and implementation within the university library system.

Systems Administration 1. Serve as the subject matter expert for the library service platforms.2. Support the research and educational needs of Yale Law School and Yale University by ensuring that library systems and services are maintained and updated. 3. Make recommendations to the leadership team and department directors on policies, operational changes, and advancements related to Lillian Goldman Law Library’s LSP, including but not limited to systems administration decisions and ongoing maintenance of the future LSP. 4. Develop training materials in collaboration with the university library and customized to the law library’s needs and workflows. 5. Advise and train law school library staff, along with faculty and student patrons, to become proficient with the new LSP system. 6. Advise and inform critical stakeholders on matters relating to the implementation of Alma within the law library’s unique environment.7. Evaluate and improve the discoverability and usability of patron-facing systems. 8. Collaborate with Campus, Yale Law School IT, and University Library IT to troubleshoot and resolve access and other library system-related issues, involving faculty, staff, and students. 9. Coordinates staff computer support and specialized hardware support with Law School ITS and law library administration.10. Manages system integration between law library systems, shared Yale University systems, shared Yale University Library systems, and external vendor systems.11. Supports integration of specialized hardware with library system and university networks. 12. Coordinates with YUL, campus and Law ITS to ensure seamless remote access to licensed resources for library patrons. 13. Provide expertise and work collaboratively with staff across the Library to develop scripts or programs that automate tasks and workflows and optimize user discovery experiences. 14. Represents the Law Library on University Library committees related to systems and electronic resources. 15. Serve as a point of contact to law library systems and vendors. 16. Pursue relevant professional development and contribute to the profession through regional and national professional and scholarly activities. Electronic Resources 1. In coordination with the Director for Collections and the Associate Director for Resource Management Services, manages the life cycle of the library’s electronic resources, including journals, eBooks, and databases.2. Work closely with the Associate Director for Research & Scholarly Services to arrange training, trials, and implementation for the Law Library. 3. Troubleshoots access and connectivity issues, and participates in the ongoing assessment, selection, and integration of these resources.4. Develops workflows, best practices, and documentation to manage electronic and subscription resource. 5. Establishes and maintains intellectual control over digital resource content in coordination with the Head of Cataloging. Oversees the law library’s access and maintenance responsibilities for its part in shared electronic resources with the University Library. 6. Compiles cost and usage statistics for use in collection assessment. 7. Participate in the promotion of the Law Library's digital collections through training workshops, blog posts, e-news, and other forms of outreach.8. Participates in the coordination of print collection maintenance and de-accessioning activities with other librarians and staff. 9. May teach an advanced legal research course depending on qualifications and experience.

Required Education and Experience: :

1. Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries2. Two or more years of experience in a relevant library setting or a combination of education and relevant experience.3. Experience in technical analysis, systems deployment, complex system configuration, or project management related to library systems and services.4. Two years of experience managing an integrated library system, preferably Alma or Folio.5. Experience with enterprise technology migrations.6. Experience managing EZProxy or other access authentication systems.

Required Licenses or Certifications :

Required Skill/Ability 1: :

A demonstrated record of innovation in developing, implementing, or promoting library services.

Required Skill/Ability 2: :

Familiarity with library metadata schema including MARC and RDA, as well as awareness of linked data models, editing software, and authority control.

Required Skill/Ability 3: :

Demonstrated ability to work with content management systems such as Drupal. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Skill/Ability 4: :

Substantial knowledge of the academic resource sharing ecosystem, including current trends and issues. Conceptual and practical knowledge of the technologies used to manage and access e-resources.

Required Skill/Ability 5: :

Ability to implement best practices for managing the records that track electronic and print purchases, subscriptions, and licenses. Demonstrated record of designing projects and completing them in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: :

JD or foreign equivalent. 4 years experience administering an integrated library system and/or knowledge base. 5 years experience in an academic law library working with digital resources. Teaching or instructional experience. Strong service orientation, excellent oral and written communication skills, and excellent project management skills. Supervisory experience and experience leading teams.
