Job summary

Seaboard Marine is seeking a dedicated team member to support Reefer Department operations, performing general maintenance on refrigerated containers and assisting with inspections while upholding safety in a fast-paced terminal.

The role requires forklift-related duties, ability to read alpha-numeric data, and flexible scheduling to accommodate shifts, holidays, and weekends. A TWIC or ability to obtain one is required.

Qualifications

• Experience and ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, pressure washers, saws, drills, wrenches, hammers, scrapers.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak basic English.
• Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
• Possess organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and fellow employees.
• Ability to think logically, follow procedures, and instructions, and make sound decisions.
• Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-trip cleaning and washing of reefer containers, including sweeping, pressure washing, and debris removal.
• Inspects empty reefer containers for damage, cleanliness, and serviceability; reports deficiencies as needed.
• Applies and maintains container status tags to identify equipment readiness, repair needs, and wash requirements.
• Assists with plugging and unplugging reefer containers in accordance with operational and safety procedures.
• Supports reefer mechanics with pre-trip inspections and preparation of reefer units and chassis.
• Assists with the execution of agriculture inspections.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area while adhering to all safety requirements.
• Maintains awareness of surrounding equipment, vehicle traffic, and personnel to promote a safe work environment.
• Attends to updates in container locations in AS400; supports intermodal equipment inventory.
• Transfers cargo between containers as needed and may rearrange cargo for fumigation.
• Performs general maintenance in Reefer Mechanic areas and operates forklift for related tasks.
