Job summary

Reddit is seeking a senior attorney to lead the privacy function, manage the global privacy compliance program, and advise on regulatory inquiries. This remote-friendly role supports US and global privacy obligations, partnering with product and engineering teams to embed privacy controls.

You will be the legal SME on privacy and data protection, guiding counsel across the team, and working with regulators, in a fast-paced platform environment. JD and 12+ years’ experience required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of legal experience, with 5+ years in-house privacy or product counseling.
• Experience implementing a privacy compliance program in a fast-paced environment.
• Licensure in one or more jurisdictions; familiarity with EU/UK data privacy is a plus.

We are looking for a senior attorney to join our growing team and manage the legal team’s privacy function, oversee our privacy compliance program, and counsel our privacy compliance platform. You will also own responses to informal and formal privacy regulatory inquiries, and build relevant regulatory and industry body relationships. A successful candidate is passionate about privacy and even more passionate about process and scale in a fast-changing environment.

Location: Remote – United States

What You’ll Do:

• Manage the Legal team’s support of Reddit’s global privacy compliance program. Provide advice and counsel to ensure Reddit meets its legal obligations and legal requirements under US, EU, and other applicable legal frameworks around the world.
• Implement and maintain external and internal privacy- and legal-related policies and processes in line with industry standard frameworks. Partner with and advise product and engineering teams to design and implement privacy controls as part of Reddit’s privacy program.
• Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on privacy and data protection compliance readiness efforts.
• Be the lead legal subject matter expert for privacy and data protection, ensuring consistency in privacy counseling across the legal team, in line with Reddit’s user-centric approach to privacy.
• Partner with and advise technical teams to investigate potential privacy and security issues and ensure compliance with applicable law.
• Be a strategic, proactive and pragmatic legal partner and collaborator with high EQ.
• Be an evangelist across the company and externally for Reddit’s privacy-focused approach.

What We’re Looking For:

• Law degree (JD, LLB, LLM, etc.). You are locally licensed in your jurisdiction, and ideally you have legal experience in multiple jurisdictions.
• 12+ years of legal experience, at a top law firm or in house, with 5+ years of in-house privacy and/or product counseling experience.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a successful privacy compliance program in a fast paced, product-forward environment.
• Experience with global privacy laws and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for tech platforms like Reddit.
• Strong legal drafting and writing skills and a penchant for concise, plain English writing.
• Experience responding to and partnering with regulators, particularly in Europe.
• Experience managing high impact and strong performing legal team members in a dynamic, inclusive environment.
• Nimble, proactive and an excellent communicator. You are used to collaborating effectively across time zones and have the ability to build strong relationships with engineers, product managers, legal colleagues and other internal stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Pay Transparency:

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including, skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below.

The base salary range for this position is: $299,200 – $418,800 USD
