Vortex Companies, LLC is seeking a dependable operator in Martinsville, VA to run stripping and grinding equipment, inspect materials, and separate recyclables to maintain fiber quality. You will weigh fiber, document production data, and bale material for storage or shipment.

This role requires safe operation of industrial machinery, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Previous manufacturing, machine-operating, recycling, or material-handling experience preferred.
• Experience in nonwovens, textile, fiber, converting, or similar manufacturing environment is a plus.
• Ability to safely operate industrial machinery and follow written operating procedures.
• Ability to read scales, complete basic production documentation, and perform basic math.
• Ability to identify and properly separate different material types.
• Ability to recognize equipment problems and communicate maintenance needs promptly.

Description du poste

• Safely operate the stripper to remove coated layers from nonwoven material and prepare recoverable material for further processing.
• Operate the grinder to process rolls, trim, scrap, and other approved materials into recyclable fiber.
• Inspect material prior to processing to ensure it is appropriate for the designated recycling stream.
• Separate materials as required to prevent contamination of recycled fiber.
• Collect and weigh processed fiber , accurately recording weights and other required production information.
• Operate baling equipment to compact processed fiber into manageable bales for storage, reuse, or shipment.
• Properly label and identify finished bales, including material type, weight, date, and other required information.
• Move raw materials, scrap rolls, processed fiber, and finished bales using approved material-handling equipment.
• Monitor recycling equipment during operation and identify abnormal conditions, jams, wear, or equipment issues.
• Perform routine equipment inspections and basic operator-level preventive maintenance.
• Maintain accurate records of material processed, fiber recovered, waste generated, and finished bale weights.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe recycling work area.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Warehouse, and Maintenance personnel as necessary.
• Follow all company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, PPE, and material-handling requirements.
• Support continuous improvement efforts focused on increasing material recovery, reducing landfill waste, and lowering manufacturing scrap costs .
• Perform other manufacturing and recycling duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Forklift or powered industrial truck experience preferred.
• Strong attention to safety, housekeeping, and material identification.
• Dependable and able to work independently with limited supervision.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and handle manufacturing materials within company-established lifting limits.
• Ability to work around industrial machinery, fiber, dust, noise, and typical manufacturing conditions.
• Ability to bend, reach, climb, and perform repetitive material-handling activities.
• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
