Job summary

The University of Florida's RecSports department on the Gainesville campus is hiring Safety Instructors to join a dynamic team. As a Student Assistant, you will teach safety courses aligned with American Red Cross standards and help foster lifelong wellbeing among participants.

Successful candidates are UF students, able to commit 3-5 hours monthly with some evening and weekend shifts. Training and certification are required by start date; compensation is $16.50 per hour, with schedule beginning

Qualifications

• Must be a University of Florida student.
• Contribute 3-5 hours/month, evenings and weekends.
• Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain by start date.
• Demonstrate basic understanding of effective instruction strategies and tools.
• Complete UF online certifications GET803, OOC101, PRV802, ITT102, GET811.

Responsibilities

• Teach all course materials to ARC standards following the Instructor Manual.
• Arrive before class start to prepare supplies.
• Dress professionally and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Provide a safe, welcoming environment and offer feedback.
• Clean and disinfect all supplies after use and return to storage.
• Attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
• Enforce RecSports policies, being courteous and helpful to participants.
• Maintain knowledge through ongoing learning and obtaining new certifications.
• Participate in Safety Audit and in-service trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Risk Management Administrative Team.
