Job summary

The University of Florida is seeking a Lifeguard for Aquatics to supervise pool safety, respond to emergencies, and uphold RecSports standards. You will work as a RecSports Student Assistant with a flexible, part-time schedule and be part of a strong campus team.

Applicants must be UF students, hold or obtain ARC Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid, and commit 6–10 hours weekly including mornings, evenings, and weekends. Training is provided and paid.

Qualifications

• Must be a University of Florida student.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certification or willing to obtain by start date.
• Pass pre-employment water test.
• Commit 6-10 hours per week (morning, evenings, and weekends).
• Complete UF online certifications GET803, OOC101, PRV802, ITT102, GET811.

Responsibilities

• Perform lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR as certified by American Red Cross.
• Monitor the safety of swimmers and aquatic facility users.
• Enforce rules and policies to ensure safety.
• Maintain cleanliness and care of the facility.
• Attend mandatory Fall training and monthly meetings.
• Maintain current Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certifications.

Job Description:

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lifeguards to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing! The Recreational Sports Lifeguard position is open for Campus Pools. Lifeguards will be tasked with overseeing all water-based activities and ensuring the safety of our members and guests.

Successful candidates will begin work towards the end of October.

• Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere.

• Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic.
• Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities.
• Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction.
• Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures.

Job Position Responsibilities

• Perform all necessary lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR skills as certified by American Red Cross
• Monitor the safety of swimmers and aquatic facility users.
• Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors.
• Monitor access to the aquatics facility to ensure only valid users and their guests are admitted.
• Enforce rules, regulations, and policies.
• Perform maintenance and cleaning, as needed.
• Monitor water chemistry, as needed.
• Attend mandatory departmental Fall training and all monthly meetings/in-services.
• Maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Risk Management Administrative Team

RecSports Fall Kick-Off 2027: Tuesday, August 17th 8am – 9:30am

• Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.

$15.85 per hour

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
