Job description

The Recruiter at Mueller Furniture is a people-focused, full-cycle talent professional who owns hiring across the company's stores, warehouse, and corporate office, actively sources and screens candidates, keeps hiring managers accountable, and serves as an approachable, trusted resource for employee relations as the business grows.

ABOUT MUELLER FURNITURE

Founded in 1927 by John "Honest John" Mueller in Belleville, Illinois, Mueller Furniture is a four-generation, family-owned furniture and mattress retailer with nearly a century of history built on trust, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to quality. The company serves families across Illinois and Missouri from its showrooms and its corporate office in Fairview Heights, offering a carefully curated selection of quality furniture and mattresses with the kind of genuine, personal service that big-box stores cannot replicate. Guided by its values of truthfulness, servant leadership, accountability, and extreme competence, Mueller Furniture is growing its team and its footprint while staying true to the honest service and lasting relationships that have kept families coming back for generations.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Open positions across the stores, warehouse, and corporate office are filled with quality hires on a predictable timeline, and hiring runs smoothly in-house because this Recruiter owns the process from start to finish.
  • Every candidate moves through a consistent, well-documented process with timely follow-up, hiring managers give feedback and make decisions on schedule, and leadership has clear visibility into open roles, pipeline activity, and time to fill.
  • Employees and managers see the Recruiter as a fair, empathetic, and trusted go-to for workplace concerns, and the company is ready to scale hiring smoothly as it opens its fifth store.
OBJECTIVES
  • Own full-cycle recruiting for store sales, warehouse, and business and operations positions, from the hiring manager intake conversation through offer acceptance and start date.
  • Actively source and headhunt candidates rather than relying on inbound applicants alone, building strong pipelines for Mueller's most frequently hired roles.
  • Write compelling job postings and manage Indeed and other recruiting sources, including sponsored job budgets and sourcing tools, to attract qualified candidates in the local market.
  • Conduct phone screens and first‑round interviews, evaluating candidates for skills, experience, and alignment with Mueller's core values.
  • Coordinate interview schedules across store managers and leadership so every candidate moves through the process without delays.
  • Follow up consistently with every candidate so each applicant has a professional, respectful, and timely experience with the Mueller name.
  • Hold hiring managers accountable to interview schedules, feedback, and decision timelines so strong candidates are not lost to slow responses.
  • Track open positions, pipeline activity, and hiring results, and report progress to leadership on a consistent cadence.
  • Serve as a people-focused resource for employees and managers, supporting interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, and mediation with fairness and empathy.
  • Support managers with performance conversations, documentation, and write‑ups, partnering with HR advisors to handle each situation consistently and professionally.
  • Partner with the HR Coordinator on new‑hire paperwork and handoffs so every new team member has a smooth start.
  • Build and improve Mueller's hiring processes, templates, and interview practices so recruiting scales with the business as new locations open.
  • Take on additional human resources duties as assigned, supporting the People team as the company grows.
COMPETENCIES
  • Owns every open role from start to finish, proactively finding and engaging candidates instead of waiting for applications to arrive.
  • Steps into a newly created role with an ownership mindset, ready to build the processes and habits Mueller's hiring will run on for years to come.
  • Listens carefully, reads people well, and builds trust with employees, managers, and candidates at every level of the organization.
  • Stays calm, neutral, and fair in difficult conversations, helping coworkers work through disagreements and reach practical resolutions.
  • Writes and speaks clearly and professionally, whether posting a job, updating a candidate, or giving a manager direct feedback on the hiring process.
  • Manages several open roles and candidate pipelines at once without letting any candidate, manager, or deadline slip through the cracks.
  • Welcomes feedback and new responsibilities, eager to grow from recruiting into broader human resources work with guidance from experienced HR advisors.
  • Represents Mueller Furniture to candidates and employees with truthfulness, servant leadership, accountability, and extreme competence in every interaction.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of recruiting experience required, including active candidate sourcing, phone screening, and managing multiple open positions at once; full-cycle recruiting experience preferred.
  • Experience managing Indeed or similar job boards and applicant tracking tools required; recruiting experience in retail, warehouse, or multi‑location businesses preferred.
  • Experience with conflict resolution, employee relations, or performance documentation preferred; SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification, or active progress toward one, preferred; proficiency with Google Workspace, including Google Sheets, preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work on site at the corporate office in Fairview Heights, Illinois, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to Mueller's store and warehouse locations to meet with managers, interview candidates, and support employees.
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods managing job postings, candidate communication, interview scheduling, and hiring records throughout the workday.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Base salary: $60,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Paid time off: 5 days in the first year, 10 days from the first through fourth anniversaries, and 15 days from the fifth through seventh anniversaries.
  • Holidays: Stores are closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Employee discount: Discounted pricing on Mueller Furniture products for eligible employees.

We hire local talent at all levels regardless of race, color, religion, age, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability, and actively foster inclusion in all forms both within our company and across interactions with clients, candidates and partners.
