Job summary

AvaMed Workforce is seeking a part-time Recreational Therapist for a correctional facility in Delano, CA. The schedule is 16 hours per week, Any 2 days, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with a $60.00/hour travel rate and a orientation period of about one week.

The role focuses on therapeutic recreation, social interaction, coping strategies, and supporting treatment goals within a correctional healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Current qualifications/licensure to practice as a Recreational Therapist in California.
• Ability to work 16 hours per week, any 2 days a week, 9:00am-5:30pm.
• Ability to complete approximately one week of facility orientation, with scheduling flexibility.
• Ability to complete all facility clearance, credentialing, and onboarding requirements.
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Correctional healthcare experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement recreational therapy programs for patients in a correctional healthcare setting.
• Provide activities to promote social interaction, leisure, exercise, communication, and coping.
• Assess and evaluate patients' recreational therapy needs and progress.
• Collaborate with IDTT and other healthcare staff and custody personnel.
• Coordinate therapy services with other treatment team members.
• Assist patients in developing skills for transition to general population or other treatment levels.
• Maintain documentation related to assessments, plans, activities, and progress.
• Perform services in line with facility policies, procedures, and professional standards.

This position offers a consistent 2 days a week. Candidate can choose what 2 days they prefer to work.

Position Overview

The Recreational Therapist will provide therapeutic recreation services to patients within a correctional healthcare setting. The role focuses on improving social interaction, developing positive coping strategies, encouraging appropriate use of leisure time, and supporting patients in achieving their treatment goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized and group recreational therapy programs based on patients' treatment needs.
• Provide therapeutic activities designed to promote positive social interaction, healthy leisure activities, physical exercise, communication skills, and appropriate coping strategies.
• Assess and evaluate patients' recreational therapy needs and progress.
• Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) and collaborate with clinicians, correctional counselors, healthcare staff, and custody personnel.
• Coordinate recreational therapy services with other members of the patient's treatment team.
• Assist patients in developing skills that support successful transition to the general population or other levels of treatment.
• Maintain appropriate documentation related to assessments, treatment plans, therapeutic activities, and patient progress.
• Perform services in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and applicable professional standards.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current qualifications/licensure or certification required to practice as a Recreational Therapist in California.
• Ability to work 16hours per week, Any 2 days a week, 9:00am-5:30pm
• Ability to complete approximatelyone week of facility orientation, with flexibility in scheduling during the orientation period.
• Ability to successfully complete all facility clearance, credentialing, and onboarding requirements.
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Correctional healthcare experience is preferred but not required.

Compensation & Schedule

Travel Rate: $60.00 per hour

Part-Time: 16 hours per week

Regular Schedule:
Any 2 days per week
9:00 AM-5:30 PM

Orientation schedules may vary during the first week and require flexibility.
