Job summary

AvaMed Workforce is seeking a Recreational Therapist for a full-time assignment at a California correctional facility in Ione. The role focuses on therapeutic recreation to improve social interaction, coping strategies and engagement in healthy leisure activities.

Schedule is four 10-hour shifts, Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, with a $60.00/hour travel rate. Orientation is about one week with potential flexibility during onboarding, and you will work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Recreational Therapist in California.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM.
• Ability to complete approximately one week of facility orientation.
• Ability to complete facility clearance, credentialing and onboarding requirements.
• Strong communication, documentation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized and group recreational therapy programs based on patients' treatment needs.
• Provide activities to promote social interaction, healthy leisure, physical exercise, communication and coping strategies.
• Assess and evaluate patients' recreational therapy progress.
• Collaborate with IDTT and other healthcare staff.
• Coordinate therapy services with other treatment team members.
• Assist patients in developing skills for transition to general population or other levels of treatment.
• Maintain documentation related to assessments, plans, activities, and progress.
• Follow facility policies, procedures and professional standards.

We are currently seeking a Recreational Therapist for a full-time assignment at a correctional facility in Ione, California.

This position offers a consistent Monday–Thursday 4/10 schedule, providing 40 hours per week with a three-day weekend.

Position Overview

The Recreational Therapist will provide therapeutic recreation services to patients within a correctional healthcare setting. The role focuses on improving social interaction, developing positive coping strategies, encouraging appropriate use of leisure time, and supporting patients in achieving their treatment goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized and group recreational therapy programs based on patients' treatment needs.
• Provide therapeutic activities designed to promote positive social interaction, healthy leisure activities, physical exercise, communication skills, and appropriate coping strategies.
• Assess and evaluate patients' recreational therapy needs and progress.
• Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) and collaborate with clinicians, correctional counselors, healthcare staff, and custody personnel.
• Coordinate recreational therapy services with other members of the patient's treatment team.
• Assist patients in developing skills that support successful transition to the general population or other levels of treatment.
• Maintain appropriate documentation related to assessments, treatment plans, therapeutic activities, and patient progress.
• Perform services in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and applicable professional standards.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current qualifications/licensure or certification required to practice as a Recreational Therapist in California.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
• Ability to complete approximately one week of facility orientation, with flexibility in scheduling during the orientation period.
• Ability to successfully complete all facility clearance, credentialing, and onboarding requirements.
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Correctional healthcare experience is preferred but not required.

Compensation & Schedule

Travel Rate: $60.00 per hour

Full-Time: 40 hours per week

Regular Schedule:
Monday–Thursday
7:00 AM–5:30 PM
Four 10-hour shifts per week

Orientation schedules may vary during the first week and require flexibility.
