Job summary

AvaMed Workforce in California is seeking a qualified Recreational Therapist for a full-time assignment at a Lancaster facility. The role focuses on therapeutic recreation services for patient-inmates and DJJ youth, with a schedule Monday-Friday.

Candidates must be CTRS certified and have at least one full year of CTRS experience. Orientation is 1-2 weeks, with the aim of preparing inmates for reentry and rehabilitation.

Qualifications

• Must be Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
• Must have 1 full year of experience as a licensed CTRS.
• Experience in a correctional or clinical setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement specialized recreation therapy services for Patient-Inmates and/or DJJ Youth.
• Participate in the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) and coordinate with clinicians and custody staff.
• Evaluate therapy needs focusing on activities of daily living, communication, physical activity, and coping strategies.

AvaMed Workforce is a Healthcare Staffing Agency that staffs all of California State Correctional Facilities. At the moment we are in urgent need of a Recreational Therapist to take on a Full-Time assignment at the correctional facility located in Lancaster, CA.

Position Details:

• 40 Hours per week
• Location: Lancaster, CA
• Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm or Tuesday-Friday 7:00am-5:00pm
• (Orientation 1-2 weeks)
• Rate: $54/hr ($2,160/week)

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Institution’s/Facility’s designee, Recreation Therapist’s duties/responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following requirements.

• a. Develop and implement specialized recreation therapy services to Patient-Inmates and/or DJJ Youth. Such therapeutic interventions are designed to promote social interaction, to encourage beneficial and appropriate utilization of leisure time, and to provide Patient-Inmates and/or DJJ Youth with preparation for reentry into general population or other levels of treatment.
• b. Participate in the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) and coordinate services with primary clinicians, correctional counselors and other custody personnel.
• c. Evaluate recreation therapy needs for Patients-Inmates and/or DJJ Youth with particular attention to activities of daily living, communication skills, physical exercise, and positive coping strategies.
