Job summary

The City of Mesa is seeking a part-time Recreation Specialist to independently develop and supervise varied recreation programs for diverse populations. Duties include planning, organizing, promoting, and operating program areas and supporting the staff and volunteers while ensuring safety guidelines are followed.

Assignments span Adaptive, Aquatics, Athletics, Recreation Centers, Reservations, Special Events and Summer Recreation.

Qualifications

• Good (1–3 years) recreation experience
• Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
• Associate's Degree or two years of college coursework

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, develop, maintain, promote, operate and manage a recreational area or facility.
• Supervise part-time staff, temporary workers, volunteers assisting in the program area.
• Follow departmental rules, regulations and safety practices; may rotate to other facilities as needed.
• Assist Athletics: plan, organize, market, conduct and evaluate programs; supervise officials/coaches; manage equipment and scheduling.
• Assist Adaptive: assess participants, train staff, hire staff for individual attention, purchase equipment, communicate with schools and families.
• Assist Aquatics: schedule and supervise aquatic programs, develop materials, inventory, train staff, schedule rentals; partner with stakeholders.
• Organize activities for Recreation Center; coordinate preschool programs, events, classes and facility rentals; staff scheduling and front desk operations.
• Coordinate and invoice for registrations and facility rentals; communicate with other departments and schools; manage registration system.
