Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is seeking a Recreation Specialist to supervise clients in designated areas, enforce program rules, and provide assistance as needed.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or 60 college credits in Human Services, or High School Diploma with 1 year shelter experience.
• Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish-speaking clients.
• Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, events and holiday programs.
• Coordinate programs with case managers to facilitate In-Reach sessions.
• Develop contacts for off-site activities.
• Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
• Provide aftercare to assigned clients who have been placed / discharged.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of the clients in their assigned area and enforcing applicable rules.
• Provide assistance as needed to clients.
• Plan and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, events and holiday programs.
• Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
• Assist in developing and implementing new programs to enhance motivation and leisure skills.
• Coordinate programs with case managers to support In-Reach sessions.
• Develop contacts for off-site activities.
• Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
• Provide aftercare to clients who have been placed or discharged.
