Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking a Recreation Specialist to supervise clients in the Manhattan shelter setting, coordinate groups and activities, and support program development. The role requires communicating professionally with clients, including Spanish speakers, and collaborating with case managers to ensure successful program delivery.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or 60 college credits in Human Services or HS diploma with 1 year shelter experience.
• Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish-speaking clients.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, events and holidays.
• Assist in developing and implementing new programs to enhance client motivation and leisure skills.
• Coordinate with case managers to facilitate In-Reach sessions.
• Develop contacts for off-site activities.
• Prepare and submit written and statistical reports.
• Provide aftercare to clients discharged from the facility.
