Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking a Childcare & Recreation Manager for Bushwick Family Residence in Brooklyn. You will supervise instructional staff, oversee daily activities, and coordinate with other disciplines to support residents.

The role emphasizes developing learning goals, documenting progress, and engaging families to foster a stable transition to independent living.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Four years of work experience with a similar population, including two years in supervision.

Responsibilities

• Manage instructional environment to foster learning and growth.
• Supervise classroom aides.
• Direct classroom activities daily; prepare schedules and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Evaluate student progress and maintain records.
• Write annual goals and intervention strategies for students.
• Assess developmental functioning and learning skills at planned intervals.
• Consult with team on all phases of the student program.
• Make parent contacts, support home instruction transition, and invite school visits.
• Maintain daily lesson plans across content areas.
• Supervise assigned staff.

Position

Position: Childcare & Recreation Manager. The Childcare & Recreation Manager oversees the childcare and recreation services. Supervision of Assistant Teachers and Recreation Assistants, and liaison with funder and regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Four years work experience with a similar population, of which two years were in a supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Childcare & Recreation Manager Principal Responsibilities

• Manage instructional environment in a manner that fosters learning and growth.
• Supervise classroom aides.
• Direct classroom activities on a daily basis. Prepare daily activity schedule and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis, maintaining necessary records.
• Write annual goals, behavioral objectives, and intervention strategies for students.
• Assess developmental functioning and learning skills of students in all areas, at regularly planned intervals.
• Consult and interface with colleagues on team on all phases of student program.
• Make parent contacts, provide for transition of instruction to home, and assure parent partnership, make home visits, and invite parents for school visits.
• Maintain daily lesson plan book which displays instruction in all content areas.
• Supervises assigned staff.
