Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Recreation Coordinator to plan and run activities for detainees, oversee athletic programs, and ensure safety and orderly operation within the recreation area.

This role supports rehabilitation and community reintegration initiatives in a correctional setting. Ideal candidates possess a high school diploma, with a preferred background in Physical Education or Recreational Therapy, and experience with inmate populations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; degree in Physical Education or Recreational Therapy highly desirable.
• Experience with prisoner populations or in a physical education program is an asset.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize recreational activities for detainees.
• Coach all athletic teams.
• Organize and oversee competitions and tournaments.
• Show detainees the proper use of recreational equipment.
• Inspect recreation area for cleanliness and safety.
• Provide weekly safety training to recreation orderlies and clerks.
• Check all detainees in and out of the gym.
• Maintain recreation department records.
• Maintain and schedule repair of recreation equipment.

Competencies Required:

If you are a quality team player and truly love to see people succeed, then you are in the right place. This position requires only a high school diploma. However, a degree in Physical Education, Recreational Therapy, or any field related to that is highly desirable. Experience working with prisoner populations or in a physical education program is also an asset.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma required. Additional education in Physical Education, recreational therapy, or related field highly desirable.
• Prior experience working with an inmate population or in a physical education program is highly desirable.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
