Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is seeking a Recreation Specialist to run a comprehensive recreation program for detainees and oversee facilities and equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Additional education in Physical Education, recreational therapy or related field highly desirable.
• Prior experience with prisoner population or physical education program is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize recreation activities.
• Coach all athletic teams.
• Organize and conduct competitions and tournaments.
• Explain proper technique and safety rules to detainees.
• Inspect recreation area for cleanliness and safety.
• Lead weekly safety training sessions with staff.
• Check detainees in/out of the gym.
• Maintain recreation department records.
• Order and schedule repair of equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary:

The Recreation Specialist implements and operates a viable recreation program for all detainees and oversees the recreation facilities and equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Recreation Specialist plans and organizes recreation activities.
• The Recreation Specialist coaches all athletic teams.
• Organizes and conducts all competitions and tournaments.
• Explains and demonstrates to detainees the proper technique and use of all recreational, including the enforcement of safety rules and regulations.
• Inspects recreation area for cleanliness and safety.
• Conducts weekly safety training sessions with recreation orderlies and clerks.
• Checks all detainees in and out of the gym.
• Maintains recreation department records.
• Orders, maintains, and schedules the repair of all recreation department equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Prior experience working with a prisoner population or in a physical education program is highly desirable

Facility Overview

This unique community resource represents one of the few "purpose-built" community correctional centers of this size in the United States. The center consists of a two-story building designed and constructed to blend in with the community setting and to provide privacy, separation by gender, and full support space for the residents and staff. The facility features a kitchen building, expanded medical clinic and courtroom areas as well as a 14,000 square foot office building for client use.
