Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is seeking personnel to supervise detainees and ensure safety across living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas. You will coordinate movements, conduct counts, and respond to emergencies in a fast-paced facility.

The role requires maturity, physical stamina, and the ability to work extended shifts. Prior correctional experience is preferred; US citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework in behavioral sciences or related field preferred.
  • Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor detainees in living, recreation, dining and visitation areas.
  • Coordinate detainee movement and conduct counts; provide emergency response as needed.
  • Ensure program activities stay safe and supervise labor crews.
  • Conduct shakedowns for contraband and confiscate prohibited items per policies.
  • Keep daily logs including disciplinary reports.
  • Provide prompt assistance for injuries or trauma; report maintenance needs.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
College coursework in behavioral sciences or related field
Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity
Possession of applicable state requisites for employment
Must be United States citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
Must have lived in the U.S. for past five consecutive years
Must be 21 years or older
Active, valid driver's license

Responsibilities

In this job, you will:

  • Supervise and monitor detainees in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas.
  • Coordinate their movement (conducting counts and providing emergency response as needed).
  • Make sure program activities stay safe and supervise labor crews.
  • Conduct shakedowns for contraband materials (by yourself or with your team) and confiscate prohibited items as per policies and procedures.
  • Keep daily logs on detainees (including disciplinary reports).
  • Provide prompt and appropriate assistance to those who have been injured, ill, or have suffered trauma.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to keep your facility clean.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred.
  • Possession of applicable state requisites for employment.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
  • Must be able to regularly report to work without being late.
  • Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
  • Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24 hour period.
  • Work experience in a correctional setting preferred.
  • Must be mature, flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of detainees as well as staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
  • Must be a United States citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for the past five (5) consecutive years.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must have an active, valid driver's license.
