Job summary

The City of Melbourne is seeking a Recreation Assistant to support a busy recreation facility. You will assist with programs, classes, summer camps and events, supervise the space, issue equipment, collect fees and registrations, and help maintain safety and order.

Hours are flexible, including nights, weekends and holidays. A Florida driver’s license is required, with out-of-state licenses needing to be converted within 10 days.

Qualifications

• Three months work experience in recreational activities or related field prefered.
• Valid State of Florida Driver's License required. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver's license must obtain the Florida driver's license within 10 days of employment.
• Must meet Level II background requirements.
• Special Requirement: For Eau Gallie Civic Center and Joe Davis Community Center - candidate must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising the facility and recreation programs.
• Open/close, secure, and maintain a safe program environment and facility.
• Issue equipment, collect fees and memberships, maintain attendance records, handle citizen concerns.
• Instruct and assist in conducting recreational programs, classes, camps, events, and sports activities.
• Set up tables/chairs for programs and rentals; answer phones and provide program information.
• Register and enroll participants using registration software; observe safety precautions and complete forms and incident reports.
• May accompany participants at events and may fill in for recreation leaders at other facilities.
