Job summary

City of Marion is seeking a Recreation Assistant to assist with administration, coordination, instruction, and supervision of participants in parks and recreation activities. You will work outdoors, coordinate drills, promote programs, and ensure safety under the guidance of the Recreation/Aquatic Coordinator.

The role requires ability to supervise staff, plan activities, and communicate effectively with the public. First aid knowledge and English proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in recreational activities with instruction and supervision.
  • Ability to plan drills and modify activities as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
  • Knowledge of first aid or emergency procedures.
  • Read, write, speak English to communicate with staff and public.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with participants and the public in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Recruit and train assistant personnel with coordinator support.
  • Promote recreational programs within the community.
  • Provide supervision and promote safe participation in activities.
  • Maintain surveillance to keep participants in view.
  • Incorporate information on activity origins, variations, and strategies into lessons.
  • Modify activities to meet age, group, and ability levels.
  • Arrive early and stay until the last participant leaves the site.
  • Execute first aid or emergency procedures as necessary and document incidents.
