Job summary

Oakland County is seeking a part-time on-site position supporting community programs and events. This role is limited to 1,000 hours per year and pays $17.68 per hour; the schedule includes evenings and weekends, and you will provide high levels of customer service to participants, volunteers, and staff while on site.

As a lead over lower level staff and volunteers, you will supervise, coordinate, and assist with program activities, maintain records, and ensure smooth operation of parks programs

Qualifications

• At least three months (480 hours or more) of full-time experience supervising/coordinating programs.
• Customer service experience in hospitality, retail or food service.
• Leadership involvement in civic, philanthropic, school clubs, sports teams or volunteerism.
• possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead staff operating a POS to collect rental fees and provide receipts.
• Handle cash transactions and ensure accurate processing in the system.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate recreational programs and events.
• Interact with park visitors of all ages and maintain records.
• Enforce safety rules for equipment and assist with repairs as needed.
• Communicate with staff, volunteers, and visitors in a courteous, professional manner.
• Work weekends, evenings, and holidays; use county software for assignments.

General Summary

Employees in this classification serve as leads over lower level part-time staff and volunteers. Provide a high level of customer service to program and event participants, community representatives and volunteers. Respond to inquiries and concerns of the general public while on site at community programs and events. Interprets and enforces park and program rules and regulations. Maintains program-related records. Works weekends, evenings, and holidays. Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have at least three (3) months (480 hour or more) full-time experience that may include:

Supervising, instructing, coordinating, coaching, caregiving, team leading, and/or organizing programs, activities, teams, or groups of adults and/or children; OR

Customer service experience in the hospitality industry, retail or food service; OR

Involvement in a leadership capacity with organizations such as civic, philanthropic, school clubs, sports teams, or volunteerism.

Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as a lead to staff who operate a point of sale computer system to collect rental fees, handles cash transactions, makes change, provides receipts, and ensures that transactions are processed in computer system correctly.

May deposit monies in the bank as requested or directed by higher level staff.

Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a recreational program such as nature interpretation, special events, mobile recreation, and camping activities.

Interacts with park visitors of all ages.

Enforces rules for safe operation and use of recreation equipment with staff and program participants.

Troubleshoots repairs to recreation equipment as needed, responding to and reporting emergencies and damages that impact community events, customer service or follow up maintenance needs.

Maintains program-related records as needed or requested.

Participates in program evaluations as needed or requested.

Works weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Communicates with staff, volunteers, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.

Responds to customer concerns, complaints, and emergencies individually and within large groups of people.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate and provide instruction to others.

Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Ability to load, unload and set up mobile recreation equipment, materials, and activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed outdoors with exposure to weather conditions.

Participates in activities that require driving or being a passenger in an automobile.
