City of Lenexa, Kansas is seeking a Recreation Program Instructor to guide engaging activities for adults 50 and older at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center. You’ll plan, lead, and supervise programs, ensuring excellent customer service and meaningful experiences for the 50-plus community.

The role offers flexible part-time hours (roughly 5–15 hours weekly) with Monday–Friday 8 AM–4 PM availability, occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of instruction or customer service experience.
• CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire; City-paid.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Experience with Canva preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and lead programs for the 50-plus community.
• Promote activities by writing class descriptions, creating flyers, and assisting with marketing.
• Assist with special events, including themed parties, potlucks, Wii Bowling tournaments, seminars, and trip preparations.
• Drive a city or personal vehicle to meetings, training sessions, and events, including operating a 15-passenger van for day tours.
• Support festivals and other events as needed.

Recreation Program Instructor – Active Agers Programming
The City of Lenexa is seeking a Recreation Program Instructor to join our team at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center. If you’re creative, energetic, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of our 50-plus community, this role is a great fit for you!

As a Recreation Program Instructor, you'll plan, lead, and supervise engaging programs for adults aged 50 and older. You’ll create meaningful experiences for participants by organizing activities, coordinating day tours in Kansas City and surrounding areas, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Schedule:

• Varying hours within Monday–Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
• Approximately 5 –15 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, prepare, and lead programs for the 50-plus community.
• Promote activities by writing class descriptions, creating flyers, and assisting with marketing.
• Assist with special events, including themed parties, potlucks, Wii Bowling tournaments, seminars, and trip preparations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of instruction or customer service experience.
• Certifications required for teaching specific classes (if applicable).
• CPR/AED certification (must obtain within 60 days of hire; City-paid).
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Experience in Canva preferred.

Starting rate of pay is $16.50 per hour.

Physical and Environmental Factors:
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings. This position requires the ability to lift and move supplies and materials for recreation programs, activities, and events. Visual acuity is needed for reviewing information. During special events, long periods of standing with limited breaks may be required.
