Job summary

Craven County Government is seeking a part-time park maintenance worker to support Creekside and West Craven Parks through spring, summer, and fall. The role focuses on keeping park areas clean, sanitizing restrooms, and preparing athletic fields for weekend games and tournaments.

You will mow and trim fields, assist with event setups, and engage with the public with tact. Evening and weekend availability is required, and a valid NC driver’s license is expected for equipment operation.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid NC driver’s license.
• Experience operating mowing and field maintenance equipment preferred.
• Will work part-time during spring, summer and fall months.

Job description

Performs work in the park maintenance of County parks and facilities. Work will be primarily performed at Creekside or West Craven Parks. Works part-time through the Spring, Summer, and Fall months to assist with park maintenance.

• Keep Park areas clean of trash and debris.
• Sanitize and clean bathrooms.
• Prepares and maintains athletic fields for weekend games and tournaments, cleans restrooms and shelters.
• Mows and trims fields and common grounds.
• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
• Work requires considerable tact as you will come into contact on a regular basis with the general public.
• Must be able to work special events and programs as needed.

Minimum Education And Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid NC Driver's license. Experience operating mowing and field maintenance equipment preferred.

Special Requirements

G.S. 153A-94.2(b) Subject to SBI criminal history record check prior to hire.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• General knowledge of outdoor lawn equipment, turf maintenance and general landscape practices.
• Ability to operate tractors, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and power tools.
• Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions including hot outdoor environments.
• Ability to exercise tact with the general public.
• Ability to lift equipment, paint, and line marking equipment up to 75 pounds.
