Job description

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, this position ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment within the facility; provides excellent customer service; maintains equipment; enforces park rules and regulations; and prepares and closes the facility before and after events.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist the Recreation Coordinator in scheduling, planning, and implementing recreation programs and community events.
  2. Provide information to facility users regarding policies and expectations; monitor and enforce rules and procedures.
  3. Promote recreation activities in the community; distribute promotional materials to schools and agencies.
  4. Conduct facility walkthroughs every 20-30 minutes; inspect rooms, equipment, and supplies for hazards.
  5. Ensure washrooms and other areas are regularly inspected, cleaned, and stocked.
  6. Assist with opening, closing, and securing facilities, ensuring all lights are off and doors are locked.
  7. Respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; resolve or escalate as appropriate.
  8. Perform duties efficiently, safely, and timely; respond to changing situations.
  9. Demonstrate strong customer service skills and foster positive relationships.
  10. Monitor and evaluate facility use and special events.
  11. Coordinate scheduling and facility use with City personnel.
  12. Maintain records and write program reports.
  13. Maintain facilities and equipment; ensure grounds are neat and litter-free.
  14. Prepare facilities for use; set up and take down furniture and equipment; resolve setup issues.
  15. Perform custodial work such as sweeping, mopping, and cleaning; keep areas tidy.
  16. Supervise part-time, seasonal, or volunteer staff as needed.
  17. Order supplies and materials.
  18. Operate office equipment for administrative tasks.
  19. Maintain safety and provide first aid for minor injuries.
  20. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned; promote a culture of safety.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of community-based recreation program experience.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Community diversity and child development principles.
  • Recreation program development and implementation.
  • Record keeping and office procedures.

  • Lead youth activities and respond to emergencies with basic first aid.
  • Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work in indoor/outdoor settings with noise and weather; perform physical activities including lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, and movement; use vision and hearing to communicate and read materials.
