Job summary

Town of Parker is seeking a Recreation Programs Specialist to plan, implement, and supervise a variety of youth sports and enrichment activities.

You will lead coaches and volunteers, maintain safety standards, and coordinate schedules, events, and participant progress within a community recreation setting.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED with 2 years of experience in teaching, coaching, or recreational programming.
  • Experience in youth sports, aquatics, or therapeutic recreation preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • AED certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Concussion recognition training within 90 days of hire.

  • Develops and implements lesson plans, practic es and activities for youth sports, enrichment classes, and therapeutic recreation.
  • Lead s and supervise s assistants, volunteers, and program participants; schedule staff for events and practices.
  • Conducts safety checks and ensures proper setup and cleanup.
  • Fosters an inclusive, positive environment and communicates program details to stakeholders.
  • Performs background screenings and ensures safety policies are followed.
  • Plan and execute events, practices, competitions, and seasonal activities.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position plan s , instruct s , and supervis es a variety of recreational programs, including youth sports, therapeutic activities, swimming, and enrichment classes.

  • Develops and i mplements structured lesson plans , practic es and activities for youth sports, enrichment classes, therapeutic recreation, and other recreational programs ; designs programs to meet age-appropriate skill levels and individual participant needs.
  • Design s inclusive programming by creating universally accessible lesson plans and accommodating special requests, including one-on-one support for participants with disabilities and seniors in therapeutic recreation .
  • Lead s and supervise s assistant coaches, volunteers, and program participants, providing training and performance feedback and scheduling staff for events, practices, and clean-up tasks.
  • Conducts regular safety checks, including equipment and environment setup before and after activities ; schedules staff to accommodate proper set-up and clean-up.
  • Foster s an inclusive, supportive, and positive environment, m odel s sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience .
  • Act s as the main point of contact between participants, parents, and departmental staff. Communicate s program details, schedules, updates, and provides participant s’ progress to all stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety, and sanitation guidelines ; r espond s to emergency situations, provide s first aid, and complete s required incident reports when necessary.
  • Monitor s and evaluate program effectiveness, mak es necessary adjustments to meet quality standards ; p rovide s feedback to participants and work s with Recreation Coordinators to improve program offerings.
  • Lead s or participate s in training sessions, certifications (such as CPR, First Aid, and AED), and coaching workshops to maintain and improve professional standards .
  • A ssist s with m anag ing program records, attendance, and necessary documentation ; a ssist s in inventory management, including tracking equipment and materials needed for programs.
  • Assist in planning and executing events, including practices, competitions, and seasonal activities, ensuring smooth coordination with staff and external partners.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required . An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

  • Must be at least eighteen ( 18 ) years of age.
  • Requires a h igh s chool d iploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) year s of experience teaching, coaching, or recreational programming and the ability to demonstrate sport-specific skills and performance techniques.
  • Experience in youth sports, aquatics, or therapeutic recreation is preferred .
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certificatio n within thirty ( 30 ) days of hire .
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain an AED certification within ninety ( 90 ) days of hire.
Minimum, Additional Qualification – Sports Coaches
  • Completion of c oncussion recognition training within ninety ( 90 ) days of hire and the ability to renew annual ly .
Employment Standards
  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies .
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques, safety practices, and recreational programming.
  • Knowledge of municipal recreation principles and practices .
  • Knowledge of recreation center equipment and facilities .

  • Skill in the use of computers and relevant software for communication and program management .
  • Skill in the supervision of program participants .
  • A bility to work effectively with diverse groups, including children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to organize and teach program curriculum in a progression allowing learning and growth from program participants .
  • Ability to demonstrate and explain activities through verbal and physical instruction.
  • Ability to perform rescues, administer first aid, and remain attentive during aquatics activities .
  • Ability to provide a positive, enthusiastic customer service attitude towards all patrons .?
  • Ability to handle incidents and confrontations in a recreation facility.?
  • Ability to collaborate across a range of recreational programs and support the mission of the Division .?

Tools & Equipment

Requires frequent use of general supplies and program and classroom equipment including but not limited to items such as arts and crafts materials, games, scoreboards, whistles, various sports gear and specialized equipment needed for therapeutic recreation and/or adaptive activities .

Physical Demands

Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision . Requires hearing abilities necessary to maintain a safe, responsive environment, particularly in outdoor or noisy recreational settings .

Environment

Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled environment or outdoor s . Employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy.
