Job description

The City of Round Rock is excited to welcome a Recreation Center Supervisor to help launch and operate our brand-new, state-of-the-art Athletic Performance Center. This is an incredible opportunity for professionals who thrive in active, people-centered environments—especially those coming from college or university facilities, athletic facilities, sports complexes, or membership-based fitness environments.

If you’ve ever managed day-to-day operations of a busy fitness/wellness facility, coordinated programs, supervised team members, or supported student-athletes or recreation users, you’ll find your skills translate perfectly into this role. Municipal recreation offers meaningful work, schedule variety, career stability, and the chance to make a positive impact on your community.

This role oversees daily operations, team member leadership, facility safety, programming, customer service excellence, and community engagement—all within a cutting-edge facility designed to serve residents of all ages.

Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

As our Recreation Center Supervisor, you will manage daily operations and lead our Recreation Center Team by:

  • Overseeing the maintenance, security, and operational readiness of the recreation center
  • Hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating full-time, part-time, seasonal team members, and volunteers
  • Leading customer service excellence and ensuring a welcoming environment for patrons, athletes, coaches, families, and community partners
  • Preparing forecasts, monitoring revenues and expenditures, presenting quarterly reports, and managing purchase orders and vendor relationships
  • Developing revenue strategies that support memberships, rentals, programming, and special events
  • Recommending, planning, and overseeing programs, classes, workshops, and community events
  • Working closely with community organizations, clubs, schools, and sports groups to build partnerships and enhance programming
  • Assisting with citywide special events and facility activities
  • Conducting routine facility safety inspections, ensuring equipment is in good working order, and maintaining building security
  • Occasionally working evenings, weekends, and event days to meet operational needs
  • Representing the City at meetings, workshops, and community functions while practicing strong risk management principles
  • Maintaining FEMA Emergency Facility Manager certification (training provided)

Supporting administrative duties such as patron registration, memberships, monetary transactions, and system operations

Who You Are

You’re passionate about creating positive recreational experiences, love working with people, and excel in fast-paced facility environments. You blend strong leadership with excellent customer service skills and have experience coordinating athletics, recreation programming, or facility operations.

You’ll thrive if you:

  • Enjoy supervising and developing a diverse team
  • Have experience in athletic performance facilities, sports complexes, or wellness facilities
  • Communicate clearly, calmly, and positively—even when juggling multiple priorities
  • Understand or are excited to learn facility operations, safety procedures, and performance standards
  • Enjoy building programs and partnerships that bring people together
  • Are comfortable working flexible hours when events or facility needs require it

If you’ve supervised student team members, coordinated programs, supported athletics operations, or worked in fitness and recreation environments—you’re likely an excellent fit.

  • Strong customer service, communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills
  • Familiarity with fitness equipment, sport facility operations, or preventive maintenance practices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of NCAA, NFHS, or World Athletics facility standards
  • Experience coordinating tournaments, competitions, special events, or community programming
  • Experience supervising a combination of full-time team members, part-time team members, seasonal team members, contracted services, and volunteers
