Your Purpose:
The Recreation Attendant at Oak Hollow Tennis Center will conduct daily operations and provide customer service at the Tennis Center, which includes outdoor clay courts, outdoor hard courts, two indoor tennis facilities, and an indoor reception area. The Recreation Attendant will also assist with general maintenance activities and perform general clerical tasks. The work schedule includes nights, weekends and holidays and is performed under regular supervision of the Tennis Administrator.
What You’ll Do:
- Provides excellent customer service for patrons, over the phone and in person, to answer questions, reserve courts, and register for lessons and programs;
- Performs opening and closing procedures for Oak Hollow Tennis Center;
- Uses the recreation software program to register users for programs and tennis instruction, reserve courts, collect fees, and perform basic transactions related to purchases; includes end of the day closing process;
- Prepares daily revenue and attendance reports;
- Performs daily safety checks on equipment and facilities;
- Assists with indoor and outdoor court maintenance as needed, operating tennis court roller, indoor court vacuum, utility cart, and other equipment as needed;
- Maintains facility in a clean and orderly fashion, including emptying trash, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning counter tops, tables, restrooms, etc.
- Assists in maintaining records of tennis instruction;
- Assists with implementing tennis programs, tournaments, and special events;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
What You'll Bring:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Completion of High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- General knowledge about the game of tennis
- Must be comfortable in a customer service role and working in an outdoor setting
- Must have experience operating a computer
Preferred Qualifications:
- Competitive tennis playing experience (i.e. participated on high school varsity or junior varsity tennis team)

Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers, and necessary to perform the duties related to the position.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
- Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see patrons across an open space and give instructions to them regarding facility use. Both eyes 20/25 –
R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected. - Acuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see program materials, telephone, merchandise, documents, and other paperwork near at hand.
Both eyes 20/22 corrected. - Depth Perception - Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time.
Depth perception - 4 - Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span to cover surrounding area to observe patrons who are in the area while attending to the activity at hand.
- Accommodation - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing up or away to check another area to observe patrons. Must be able to adjust the lens of eye to glance quickly to ensure all is safe and program participants are all right.
Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:
- Medium to Heavy Work
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and
- A negligible amount of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position.
- Work requires running, jumping, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and reaching. There is a significant use of arms, hands, legs and feet. Must be able to move quickly since safety factors are involved.

- Using arithmetic and/or Statistics: Ability to use arithmetic to add charges for court rentals, add and figure number of program participants and attendees, collect fees, figure daily revenue collections, calculate percentages, count money, make change and to complete various reports from information.
Language Ability
- The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings
- The Tennis Coordinator is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment for long periods of time without becoming exhausted. The position is best suited for someone who doesn’t mind getting wet, dirty, and sweaty.
Hazards
- The Recreation Attendant-Tennis will be exposed to water, trash, garbage and cleaning solutions. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens.
Machinery/Tools/Work Aids/Other Equipment
- Items which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Tennis court roller, utility vehicle, blower, cash register, truck, calculator, computer, fire extinguisher, telephone, 2-way radio, mop, broom, water hose, drink dispensers, pens, pencils, Personnel Resolution, and various forms associated with the job.
