Job Title: Recreation Attendant- Guest Services

Classification: Non-Exempt, Intermittent (less than 29 hours per week)
Pay Range (hourly): $17.32/min - $25.40/ max(depending upon experience and qualifications)
Position Summary: Performs a variety of customer service, recreation program, facility operations, and safety duties to support the daily operation of recreation facilities and programs within the City of Aspen Recreation Department. Provides assistance to patrons, supports programs and events, operates point-of-sale systems, and helps maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive environment in support of the organization’s values and mission statement.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Recreation department Guest Services Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:
Recreation & Guest Services
- Supports recreation programs, activities, events, and facility operations as assigned.
- Greets and assists visitors and provides friendly, professional customer service.
- Answers phones, provides information about programs and facilities, and responds to customer questions and feedback.
- Operates point-of-sale systems and assists with merchandise, retail and pass membership sales.
- Builds and manages patron recreation accounts within recreation software.
Facility Operations & Safety
- Assists with daily operations at the Aspen Recreation Center, Red Brick Recreation Center, and other recreation facilities as assigned.
- Helps with facility openings, closings, events, rentals, setups, and takedowns.
- Follows established safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Identifies and reports safety concerns and assists with incident or accident documentation as needed.
- Understands and follows Emergency Action Plan (EAP) procedures and responds appropriately during incidents.
- Maintains a clean and orderly front desk and lobby area
Program & Event Support
- Assists recreation staff with program preparation, equipment needs, and activity support.
- Helps monitor public areas and activities to promote a safe and positive experience for patrons.
- Assists with stocking, organizing, and maintaining retail and program-related inventory as directed.
- Performs other related duties and special projects on an as needed basis.

Minimum Requirements
Education/ Age Requirement: Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age at the time of hiring.
Experience: At least six (6) months of guest service or customer service experience. One (1) or more year(s) is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- When a driver's license or commercial driver's license is required for the position, must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
- Must possess or obtain current CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire. Paid training will be provided at no cost to candidates who are not already certified.
Preferred Candidate
- Over one year of experience in customer service or other public-facing roles within a team environment.
- Current CPR-First Aid Certification
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.
NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements listed.
Position Type and Work Hours
- Intermittent (less than 29 hours per week), hours vary depending on facility needs, weekday versus weekend operational hours, scheduled programs, and staff availability.
- Evenings/Weekends: May be required, including coverage for special events, swim meets, or rentals outside standard operating hours.
Work Environment
- Indoors: Work is primarily performed in and around recreation facilities, including the Aspen Recreation Center, Red Brick Recreation Center, and other City recreation facilities.
- Exposure to varying levels of noise, frequent interaction with the public, and a fast-paced environment. Work may involve standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Outdoors/Off-Site: Meetings, trainings, and site visits at a variety of city facilities and areas.
Physical Requirements
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium while walking throughout recreation facilities and performing routine duties.
- Bending: Bending to assist patrons, reach equipment or supplies, and perform cleaning and organizational tasks.
- Climbing: Occasionally ascending or descending stairs, ladders, or other facility equipment as needed.
- Carrying: Transporting or moving equipment or supplies up to 20 lbs. unassisted.
- Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Using hands and eyes together to operate point-of-sale systems, recreation software, computers, phones, and other equipment.
- Gripping/Grasping: Applying pressure with fingers and palms to function properly in the front desk, and lobby, space. Handling: Seizing, holding, moving, and organizing merchandise, equipment, supplies, and other materials.
- Hearing: Detecting and comprehending sounds such as patron requests, phones, alarms, announcements, and emergency signals.
- Lifting: May be required to lift objects or supplies, typically up to 20 lbs., with occasional heavier lifting as needed for facility operations or event setup.
- Reaching: Extending arms to assist patrons, access equipment and supplies, stock merchandise, and maintain work areas.
- Repetitive Motions: Performing repetitive hand and arm movements while using computers, point-of-sale systems, phones, and other equipment.
- Sitting: Sitting for long periods while performing computer, point-of-sale, administrative, or customer service duties.
- Standing: Standing for extended periods while assisting patrons, operating the front desk, monitoring facility areas, and supporting programs and events.
- Stooping: Bending down to access supplies, clean areas, organize inventory, or assist with facility operations.
- Talking: Clearly communicating with patrons, coworkers, and supervisors; answering questions; providing information; and responding appropriately during routine and emergency situations.
- Visual Acuity: Maintaining sufficient visual acuity to monitor facility areas, identify potential hazards, read signs, computer screens, and other information, operate point-of-sale systems, and assist patrons.
- Walking: Moving throughout the facility to assist patrons, monitor facility areas, respond to operational needs, and perform recreation, guest service, and facility support duties.
