Join to apply for the Recreation Attendant role at City of Mercer Island

Performs routine clerical activities supporting the daily and special activities for the City of Mercer Island's Recreation Division. Work involves facility set-up and breakdown for indoor and outdoor programs, activities, and events, and interacting professionally with internal and external individuals and groups.

Work is performed under general supervision with limited initiative. The position exercises judgment within well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.

Essential Job Functions

The following are typical examples of work performed by this role. Duties may vary depending on department or program needs:

  1. Cleans and organizes facilities and equipment used in all indoor and outdoor recreation spaces; reports custodial needs.
  2. Opens and closes recreation facilities as scheduled; prepares spaces for programs and events.
  3. Maintains supplies and reports inventory issues.
  4. Ensures proper use of facilities by customers.
  5. Assists guests, volunteers, and staff; reports hazards, accidents, and incidents; responds to emergencies.
  6. Organizes data for programs, including participant and contact information.
  7. Supports customer service activities, including data entry and receptionist duties.
  8. Prepares for offsite activities and assists with special projects.
  9. Works evening and weekend hours as required.
  10. Responds to inquiries from the public.
  11. Adheres to City policies and procedures.
  12. Attends meetings and events as required.
  13. Supports emergency response efforts when needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualification Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required, with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Licensure/Certification
  • Valid WA State Driver's License; a clean driving record and a three-year record abstract required prior to hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems.
  • Skill in basic mathematics.
  • Ability to learn Microsoft Office and department-specific software.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
