About the position: This position will be assigned to the Buckner Fitness Center Pool or Elmendorf Fitness Center Pool on JBER, AK.
Flexible employees have work schedules that depend on the needs of the activity. You may work a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Flexible employees may be subjected to "on call" work in addition to hours posted on the schedule.
Duties
- Continuously observe the swimming area to ensure the safety of patrons. Ensure the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted. Rescue swimmers in trouble, administer first aid promptly, and call for medical assistance if needed. Warn swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions. Operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets standards. Inspect diving boards, swimming equipment, and deck areas regularly for hazards, and coordinate repairs or notifications. Perform related duties such as cleaning bath houses, pools, and decks.

- Complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- Hold current certification in lifesaving, water rescue, basic first aid, and CPR (child and adult), or obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
- Pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC).
- U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for at least three years prior to employment.

Qualifying Experience:
For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have current nationally recognized certifications in lifesaving, water rescue, basic first aid, and CPR (child and adult). Certification must be obtained prior to or within 30 days of employment. Experience with swimming activities, rules, procedures, and safety equipment is desirable. Must pass background checks and a physical examination.
