Job summary

Medford Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Medford, MA seeks a Recreation Aide to implement activities and foster resident engagement. You will create crafts, schedule movies, and guide group activities to promote participation and social interaction among residents.

The role requires respect for age-related needs, strong communication in English, and the ability to document activities and outcomes accurately. Training provided, with progressive responsibilities and stable employment.

Qualifications

  • Must read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must demonstrate care appropriate to residents’ age-related needs.
  • Must be able to make independent decisions when warranted.

Responsibilities

  • Implement recreation procedures as directed by the Recreation Director, creating crafts and escorting residents.
  • Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and providing games and activities.
  • Encourage participation in recreational activities and organize games, crafts, religious services and parties.
  • Assist in-room residents by visiting, writing letters, running errands and making appointments.
  • Guide individual or group re-motivation and reality orientation sessions for residents’ worth and self-esteem.
  • Complete required documentation in the resident’s medical record.

Qualifications
  1. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  2. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served
  3. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

Experience Required:

General work experience preferred but not required; will train Professional Licensure and Certification Required: N/A

Essential Functions
  1. Implement Recreation procedures as directed by the Recreation Director by creating decorations, setting up necessary equipment, creating ceramics, needlework, woodwork and other crafts, escorting residents to and from Recreation area, and awarding prizes.
  2. Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and providing games/activities for residents.
  3. Encourage residents to participate in recreational social activities so that all residents are involved in activities by engaging in and organizing games, crafts, religious services, parties, etc.
