Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball is seeking a Recreational Therapist to plan, coordinate and implement therapeutic recreation programs for pediatric to geriatric patients. You will help design activities, support functional goals, and contribute to the overall well-being of patients and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of start date.
• RecTherapy certification as Recreational Therapist.

Responsibilities

• Organize and manage time effectively for maximum productivity and patient evaluation.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate care.
• Communicate effectively to fulfill responsibilities of the position.
• Remain clinically competent with current Therapeutic Recreation procedures and policies.
• Understand medical terminology and its application to therapy.
• Prepare meaningful reports for patients, staff, and physicians.
• Monitor biomechanics and safe use of adapted devices and equipment.
• Maintain accurate departmental records of patient treatment.
• Support motor coordination and dexterity in therapeutic procedures.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Plans, coordinates, and assists in the management of the Recreational Therapy Service. Participates in planning and implementing new programs and services. Establishes and implements therapeutic recreational therapy programs to treat patients. Directs and organizes such activities as adapted sports, dramatics, and social activities, arts and crafts, regulating content of program in accordance with patient’s capabilities, needs, and interests. Employee will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

What you will do in this role:

• Ability to organize and manage time effectively for maximum productivity and for timely patient evaluation and reporting.
• Must possess the ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines.
• Must support the ability to communicate effectively to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
• Must be clinically competent and know current “state of the art” procedures and policies in the field of Therapeutic Recreation.
• Verbal ability to understand medical terminology and how it applies to Occupational/Recreational Therapy.
• Communicate with patients, staff, and physicians and prepare meaningful reports.
• Visual perceptual and motor abilities to understand biomechanics of human body and adapted device actions.
• Clerical abilities to keep accurate departmental records of patient treatment.
• Motor coordination, manual dexterity and ability to execute accurately and safely therapeutic procedures and manipulate special equipment.

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
