Job summary

Ascension Recovery Services seeks six Peer Recovery Support Specialists to provide recovery-focused support to individuals pursuing employment across several West Virginia communities. This is a field-based role with regular regional travel, aligning with the Return-to-Work program.

Qualifications

• Meets applicable West Virginia requirements for Peer Recovery Support Specialists and credentialing/certification.
• Relevant peer recovery or recovery-support experience.
• Lived recovery experience may be required or preferred per certification and policy.
• Understanding of recovery-oriented, person-centered, strengths-based approaches.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to establish trust while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned West Virginia service region.

Responsibilities

• Build supportive, respectful relationships with participants using recovery-oriented, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches.
• Help participants identify recovery goals and how recovery stability supports employment.
• Encourage connection with peer support, recovery groups, and community resources.
• Provide encouragement, practical guidance, and recovery-focused problem-solving within peer scope.
• Help participants strengthen self-advocacy, confidence, and informed decision-making.
• Identify recovery-related barriers that affect attendance, job readiness, or employment.
• Work with RTW Liaisons to develop strategies supporting recovery and employment duties.
• Support participants during job searches, onboarding, transitions, and follow-up.
• Help participants navigate transportation, housing, recovery meetings, and other needs.
• Respond quickly when recovery challenges could risk employment and connect to support.
• Facilitate warm handoffs to recovery organizations and services.
• Help participants navigate access to clinical care while maintaining boundaries between peer support and clinical treatment.
• Participate in team meetings and case consultations while protecting confidentiality.
• Engage with community partners and resources as appropriate.
• Document peer contacts, referrals, engagement, and follow-up timely.
• Elevate safety concerns or needs that fall outside peer support scope.
• Complete required training, supervision, continuing education, and professional development.
