Job summary

Saint Francis Ministries, Inc. is seeking a peer mentor to positively affect clients and families through recovery support services.

The role involves home visits, driving to client locations, and coordinating with clinicians to promote access to inpatient programs and community resources. The position requires lived experience with substance use recovery, 21+ years of age, valid driver's license, and ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must have lived experience with substance use challenges and be in stable recovery for at least one year.
• Must complete KDADS peer mentor program within 3 months and be willing to pursue Level II training when available.
• Some clients require evening and weekend support sessions.
• Must be 21 years of age
• Must pass MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect clearance checks.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be legally able to operate a vehicle.
• Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication.
• Flexible to changing situations, staff and families.
• Sensitive to the needs of families.
• Be a team player and willing to show flexibility.
• Basic understanding of adolescent development and adults' treatment.
• Ability to listen, analyze and record information.
• Able to share their story in a healthy way.
• Willing to take clients to appointments and to support groups.
• May work with contracted services including congregate care programs.
• Help parents move forward in relationships and recognize enabling behaviors.
• Establish rapport with clients with empathy and professional boundaries.
• Independent discretion within scope of position.
• Manage stress and seek supervisor when needed.
• Work well alone or with a team.
• Document interactions in SFM HER system.
• Understand Universal Precautions and HIPAA confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist with incentive programs for participant engagement and program completion.
• Develop relationships with community partners.
• Follow safety procedures and complete required drug screenings.
• Facilitate psychoeducational groups related to substance use and healthy living.
• Provide in-home services when required for Seeking Safety and related outpatient programs.
• Travel to client homes and potentially drive to inpatient programs.
• Transport clients to support programs and appointments; assist with case management needs.
• Maintain flexible hours including evenings and weekends to meet client needs.
• Notify clients if appointments cannot be kept.
• Adhere to SFCS SOPs, policies, and applicable regulations.
