Job summary

DESC is a national leader in services for homelessness and behavioral health support, seeking a Peer Specialist/Counselor for Pioneer Square Clinic in Seattle. You will run a drop-in center, work with a small team, and draw on personal recovery to guide clients toward stability and engagement in care.

Qualified candidates have CPSS credentials or trainee status, lived experience with mental health or substance use treatments, and a commitment to harm-reduction and recovery-focused care.

Qualifications

  • CPSS credential or eligibility to obtain CPSS certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Experience working with adults with severe mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to drive and travel to outreach sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Lew Middleton Drop-In Center operations and daily activities.
  • Engage with a multi-disciplinary team to support client care and recovery.
  • Incorporate personal recovery experience into services provided.
  • Coordinate access to food, clothing, hygiene, medical care, and community resources.
  • Facilitate consumer meetings and gather input on program performance.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and safety management tasks.
  • Support recovery goals via plans, WRAP, and other tools.
  • Plan and co-facilitate self-help and educational groups.
  • Travel locally to outreach consumers at homes, shelters, and in the community.
  • Assist with housing stabilization and client empowerment toward employment.
  • Assist in ADL assessments and gap planning with the team.
  • Participate in supervision, trainings, and case conferences.
  • Maintain records and participate in QA activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
