Job summary

DESC’s Pioneer Square Clinic seeks a Peer Specialist/Counselor to run the Lew Middleton Drop-In Center for adults with severe mental illness, in collaboration with a team and volunteers. The role carries a caseload of about 15 clients and supports recovery through peer-led strategies.

This position emphasizes lived experience, engagement, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to promote stability, housing, and access to community resources.

Qualifications

• Must hold CPSS or CPSS-T credential or obtain within 60 days.
• Must complete WA State Peer Counselor Training before hire.
• Lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services.
• Must have a valid WA driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Interest in working with clients who are difficult to engage and maintain in programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring and day-to-day operations of the Lew Middleton Drop-In Center.
• Provide outreach, engagement and support of on-going case management services.
• Integrate personal recovery experience into client care and recovery work.
• Support consumers through recovery-focused approaches to reach their goals.
• Coordinate with case managers to link to food, clothing, hygiene, medical care and community resources.
• Plan and facilitate consumer meetings to elicit input on program performance.
• Participate in crisis intervention and safety management tasks.
• Assist consumers with expressing recovery goals through WRAP and related methods.
