Job summary

Wisconsin Community Services, Inc. is seeking a Peer Support Specialist in Milwaukee to help individuals and families thrive through recovery-oriented coaching and advocacy.

You will use lived experience to engage participants, support goal setting, and connect them with community resources in home and community settings. Responsibilities include 1:1 peer support, crisis navigation, documentation, and collaboration with care teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Wisconsin peer support training or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
• Personal lived experience with mental health, substance use, co-occurring needs, or related life challenges.
• Experience with diverse age groups and families.
• Strong written and verbal communication, cultural competence, and recovery principles.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 peer support in homes and community settings, using lived experience to build trust and engage participants.
• Help navigate substance use, mental health, and other systems of care.
• Identify strengths, barriers, needs, goals, and priorities with participants and families.
• Collaborate with care teams to develop strategies and crisis plans.
• Provide coaching and practical support to strengthen recovery and self-advocacy skills.
• Connect participants to services and community resources.
• Complete documentation and progress notes timely and accurately.
• Attend supervision, staff meetings, trainings, and required meetings.
