Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group seeks a Recovery Counselor to provide direct, person-centered care in our Capital Star Crisis Residential Program in Sacramento. This in-person, full-time role requires compassionate engagement with youth and adults, and adherence to clinical and safety guidelines.

You will work Thursday–Monday, night shift (11 pm – 7:30 am), with on-site supervision and opportunities for paid CEU credits, career development, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance; driving record must meet policy requirements.
  • MHRS certification is required (can be obtained after hire).
  • High school diploma plus one year of full-time experience in consumer-directed services within mental health, healthcare, or social services setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to meet physical and psychosocial needs of clients under supervision; some tasks may be performed independently.

Job Title: Recovery Counselor,
FT Division/Program: Capital Star Crisis Residential Program
Starting Compensation: 21.02 - 25.22 USD Per Hour
Working Location: Sacramento: Crisis Residential Program (In-person position)
Working Hours/Shift: FT, Thursday - Monday, NOC Shift (11 pm - 7:30 am)

What you bring to SBHG (qualifications)
  • Licensing: Valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance and must maintain a driving record that meets the company driver’s eligibility policy.
  • Certification: Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist (MHRS) certification required (can be obtained after hire).
Recovery Counselor I Education/Experience
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of full-time experience in consumer-directed services within a mental health, healthcare, or social services setting.
Recovery Counselor II

Recovery Counselor II Requires one of the following education and experience combinations:

  • Associate degree: Plus, six years of experience in the mental health field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Mental Health Field): Plus, four years of experience in the mental health field.
  • Master’s Degree (Mental Health Field): Plus, two years of experience in the mental health field.
How you will make a difference (job overview)

This position has primary responsibility for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the clients through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. Duties are performed under direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, or designee, in most cases, but some tasks are accomplished independently.

Division/Program Overview

Programs: Voluntary Residential Program for Transition-Age Youth (TAY)

Population Served: At-risk Transition-Age Youth (TAY) needing a higher level of care short of psychiatric hospitalization

Capacity: Up to 15 youth

Facility & Setting: 24/7 Voluntary Residential Facility

Clinical Services: Individual therapy, group rehabilitation, medication management, and clinical case management

Length of Stay: Extended residential treatment timeline (varies based on individual stabilization, recovery, and housing transition goals)

Skills & Transition: Educational guidance, vocational training/support, and housing placement/location assistance Recovery-oriented care, peer support, life skills development, and community connection building
