Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Redwood City is seeking a part-time Support Counselor to join the Acacia Mental Health Rehabilitation Center. This in-person role offers a Sunday-Monday PM shift from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm and compensation ranging from $26.62 to $31.94 per hour. You will provide direct care under supervision and participate in a comprehensive benefits package with paid CEUs.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance.
• MHRS certification preferred; may be obtained post-hire for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of clients.
• Under direct supervision, perform duties; some tasks may be completed independently.

What you bring to SBHG (qualifications):

Licensing & Driving Requirements: Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance. Must maintain a clean driving record that aligns with the company’s driver eligibility policy.

Certification: Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist (MHRS): Certification is preferred; however, this credential can be obtained post-hire for qualified candidates.

Education/Experience: Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience combinations in a related field (e.g., behavioral health, social services, or criminal justice/juvenile probation):

• Support Counselor II: High School Diploma: Plus 4 years of relevant experience. Associate degree: Plus 2 years of relevant experience.
• Support Counselor III: Associate degree: Plus 4 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s Degree: Plus 2 years of relevant experience.

How you will make a difference (job overview):

This position has primary responsibility for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the clients through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. Duties are performed under direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, or designee, in most cases, but some tasks are accomplished independently.

Division/Program Overview:

Population Served: Adults (Ages 18–64) with severe mental health challenges that have required placement in a state hospital or other intensive behavioral health setting.

Facility & Setting: 16-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility.

Clinical Services: Comprehensive behavioral health and psychiatric services delivered by a multidisciplinary team.

Skills & Transition: Independent living skills development, self-sufficiency training, and transition planning for community re-entry.
