Job summary

FamilyCare OB/Gyn & Birth Center in Charleston, WV seeks a compassionate Peer Support Specialist to work with adult patients, providing a safe, supportive environment and using personal recovery experience to inspire resilience.

The role involves leading support groups, mentoring peers, coordinating with care teams, and documenting interventions within 24 hours. A strong emphasis on advocacy and patient relations is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Three or more years' experience working in a behavioral health setting is required.
• Two or more years’ experience in an acute inpatient behavioral health setting preferred.
• Training on personal advocacy, engagement, recovery and resiliency principles, community supports/resources, effective use of sharing life experiences and parenting skills, as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer mentoring or coaching to support recovery goals.
• Lead recovery, educational and support groups and activities.
• Advocate with and for the person and their family.
• Complete documentation of interventions within 24 hours of service.
• Document assessments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate in weekly meetings and supervisions to improve efficacy.
• Contribute to PI/QI efforts through problem-solving and data collection.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward customers.
