Job summary

Vigo County Health Department seeks a Peer Recovery Coach to provide non‑clinical support aimed at helping individuals establish and sustain recovery from addiction. The role emphasizes respect, self‑direction, and empowerment through peer support, education on resources, and mentorship within a recovery‑oriented framework. The position offers a 8:00 a.m.

– 4:00 p.m. schedule, Monday through Friday, with full‑time benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3 years demonstrated personal recovery experience and engaged in a recovery network.
• Completion of the Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CAPRC) certification preferred but not required.
• Experience facilitating recovery groups.
• Knowledge of recovery support systems, including 12-step groups and direct service.
• Experience or working knowledge of the criminal justice system.
• Valid Indiana driver’s license with a safe driving record; annual proof to supervisor.
• Ability to pass department drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of trauma informed care.
• Demonstrates positive beliefs regarding participants with varying needs.
• Collects participant data and conducts follow‑up surveys for long‑term engagement.
• Helps navigate recovery support systems.
• Share personal recovery experiences and model coping techniques.
• Provide ongoing education on substances, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, tobacco, nutrition and wellness.
• Finds creative solutions and prioritizes tasks.
• Provide peer support through coaching, role modeling and mentoring.
• Serve as liaison between administration, staff and participants.
• Communicate professionally in writing and verbally.
• Attend community meetings and trainings related to the re‑entry population.
• Address emergency basic needs as needed (food, housing, transportation, clothing).
• Follow up after referrals and document in case notes.
• Facilitate recovery support groups and addiction education as needed.
• Coordinate with criminal justice monitoring agencies about services provided.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
