Qualifications

  • Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and materials.
  • Measure dimensions and verify alignment of structures.

JMT's Virginia Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Performs routine tests on concreate, soils and other materials
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
  • Gathers and maintains record documents
  • Makes field notes and computations

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Strong Computer proficiency
  • Active driver's license
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
  • 1-4 years of Construction Inspection Experience

Preferred Experience

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Client Requested certifications (VDOT: Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt I & II, Pavement Marking, GRIT; DEQ: E&S and SWM Inspector; Intermediate Workzone; Nuclear Safety; ACI-Concrete Field Tech)

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
