Job summary

Charleston County Government seeks a patient support aide for a residential drug and alcohol treatment center. The role focuses on safety monitoring and assisting medical staff, with day and night shifts available up to 28 hours per week.

Starting hourly rates are $16 for day shift and $17 for night shift. This position requires CPR and SAS certification within 3 years, a valid SC driver’s license, and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• SAS certification within 3 years of hire.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid SC Driver’s license.
• Copy of SC DMV 10 year driving record with no suspensions.
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience in a residential treatment setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observing patients, listening to their concerns, recording observations.
• Assisting agency medical and nursing staff.
• Transporting patients to and from destinations in a 15-person van.
• De-escalating situations.
• Maintaining a safe and secure treatment environment through room and belongings searches, safety inspections, and reporting safety issues.
• Role modeling pro-social attitudes and behaviors to patients.
• Assisting patients in activities of daily living (eating, hygiene, living space).
• Orienting new patients to the treatment program.
• Working with nursing, medical and clinical staff.

Job description

This position monitors the safety of and provides support to patients in a residential drug and alcohol treatment center. The work schedule varies and includes up to 28 hours per week. Day and night shifts are available.

STARTING HOURLY: $16.00 DAY SHIFT

STARTING HOURLY: $17.00 NIGHT SHIFT

Continuation of employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding from service, program and agency earnings.

Duties and Responsibilities, Duties include but are not limited to:

• Observing patients, listening to their concerns, recording your observations;
• Excellent customer service skills;
• Assisting agency medical and nursing staff;
• Transporting patients to and from various destinations in a 15-person passenger van;
• De-escalating situations;
• Maintaining a safe and secure treatment environment through completion of room and belonging searches, safety inspections, and reporting of safety issues;
• Role modeling pro-social attitudes and behaviors to the patient population;
• Assisting patients in maintaining their activities of daily living (eating, hygiene, maintaining a clean living space, etc.);
• Orienting new patients to the treatment program;
• Working collegially with the nursing, medial and clinical staffs.

Minimum Qualifications/Education:

• High School Diploma/GED;
• With agency support, must obtain a Substance Abuse Specialist (SAS) certification within 3 years of hire;
• Will be expected to obtain and maintain CPR certification;
• A valid SC Driver’s license;
• Copy of SC DMV 10 year driving record that includes no current suspensions;
• Basic computer skills;
• Experience working in a residential treatment setting preferred.
