Job summary

Thales Defense & Security, Inc. in Clarksburg, MD is seeking a Receiving Inspector for first shift to verify COTS and custom materials against drawings and specifications. The role reports to the QA Manager and involves extensive use of gages and micrometers to ensure pass/fail quality criteria are met.

Qualifications include U.S. citizenship, 2–4 years in receiving inspection, IPC-A-610/IPC-A-600 certifications (or ability to obtain), and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communications – Fluent in English
  • High school diploma
  • 2-4 years experience in receiving inspection or related technical environment
  • ASQ CQI certification preferred. Must be familiar with Body of Knowledge
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-600 certifications required (must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical and cable drawings, cable wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and COTS datasheets
  • Ability to lift, move and transfer boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient with inspection equipment and gages
  • Experience generating and running Keyence CMM programs and reports preferred

Responsibilities

  • Inspect COTS materials for visual and dimensional conformance to OEM data sheets
  • Inspect custom materials (PCB, metal, textiles, plastics) to drawings and process documents
  • Perform continuity testing for opens/shorts on cables
  • Perform electrical testing on custom assemblies
  • Identify and report nonconforming material
  • Apply ASQ CQI Body of Knowledge in inspections
  • Use micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, height gauges, profilometer, etc., for inspection
  • Capable of working with engineering and manufacturing materials (adhesives, epoxies, metals, plastics)

We are seeking a Receiving Inspector to work in our Clarksburg, MD operations onFirst Shift. First Shift hours are 6 am to 3:30 pm. This position will report directly to the Manager of Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect to determine acceptability of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) materials to the visual and dimensional attributes of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) data sheets
  • Inspect to determine acceptability of custom materials (PCB, fabricated metal, textiles, plastics, etc) to the visual and dimensional attributes of engineering drawings and process documents
  • Perform continuity testing for opens and shorts testing of cables
  • Perform electrical testing on custom assemblies
  • Identify and report nonconforming material
  • Use skills and knowledge defined in the ASQ CQI Body of Knowledge to perform inspections
  • Proficient in use of inspection attribute and variable gages including pin gauges, radius gauges, screw pitch gauges, and thickness gauges, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, drop gauges, force gauges, and profilometer
Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required. - Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications – Fluent in English

  • Ability to lift, move and transfer boxes in support of inspection activities up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance
  • Able to be able to walk, sit,stand, & work with computers,engineering equipment, and manufacturing equipment up to 9 hours a day in an office, cube, lab and/or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work with engineering and manufacturing materials and products such as Isopropanol Alcohol, Adhesives, Solder, Fluxes, Epoxies, RTV, plastics, metals, batteries, wires, components etc.
  • Ability to accurately inspect with micrometers, calipers, pin gauges and common tools used for incoming inspection
  • Work with scopes with 4-10x magnification for up to 9 hours a day
  • Experience generating and running Keyence CMM programs and reports preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products

The hourly pay range for this role is $ 22.07 - $ 28.20USD along with a target incentive compensation plan (ICP) of 3%.The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the experience level for the role described above.
