The receiving role is a key position in the operation of the warehouse. The main responsibility is to manage the receipt, inspection, and storage of incoming and outgoing goods while ensuring accuracy, quality, and proper documentation. This individual provides a fundamental and critical contribution to the organization’s success.Receiving provides the foundation for the accuracy of inventory, a vital voice with Purchasing regarding vendor feedback, as well as, ensuring that the Accounting team can process payments effectively. This role will build a solid set of skills that are critical to others roles in the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect deliveries: Unload trucks, check shipments against purchase orders, invoices, and packing lists, and verify correct items and quantities
- Quality control: Inspect goods for damage, defects, or discrepancies; report issues to management or suppliers
- Inventory management: Update computerized or manual inventory records, maintain accurate stock levels, and organize items in designated storage areas
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain receiving logs, return damaged goods to vendors, and handle paperwork for returns or corrections
- Coordination: Work with purchasing, logistics, and sales teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely restocking
- Storage and handling: Sort, label, and store items according to company procedures; maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area
- Support operations: Assist in inventory audits, cycle counts, and other warehouse duties as needed

Work Environment and Physical Demands
This role is expected to be in the warehouse most of the time unless communicating with other functions.This position requires the employee to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb and lift. Lifting is a significant element of the role with the ability to lift overhead.Lifting and moving items will regularly be over 10 pounds, frequently over 25 pounds and occasionally 50 to 100 pounds.Safety should be considered in all instances.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.Primary work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30am to 4:30pm and Fridays from 7am to 4pm. Additional time may be needed as the business requires.
