Responsibilities

  • Identify, document, and report shortages, overages, damages, and nonconforming material; place items on hold when necessary.
  • Enter receipts accurately into the inventory system and label materials for traceability.
  • Move and put away materials to designated storage locations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving dock.
  • Communicate with purchasing, production, and carriers to resolve discrepancies.

SUMMARY

The Receiving Associate is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting, counting, and documenting all incoming materials. This role ensures that shipments match purchase orders, that materials meet quality standards, and that inventory is recorded correctly and put away in a safe, organized manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Unload incoming shipments safely using pallet jacks, forklifts, or by hand.
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading.
  • Count, weigh, and measure materials to confirm quantities; calculate sheet, carton, and pallet counts as needed.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage, defects, correct specifications, and conformance to receiving requirements.
  • Identify, document, and report shortages, overages, damages, and nonconforming material; place items on hold when necessary.
  • Enter receipts accurately into the inventory system and label materials for traceability.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Strong math skills: able to quickly and accurately add, subtract, multiply, divide.
  • Material inspection: keen attention to detail with the ability to spot damage, defects, and specification mismatches, and to read and compare material specs, labels, and documents.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with inventory or ERP systems is a plus.
  • Forklift certification a plus (or willingness to obtain).
  • Good communication and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures.
