Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Rendering Engineer in Irving, TX to design and implement high-fidelity, real-time rendering and sensor simulation for digital twins, autonomous machines, robotics, and virtual jobsite environments.

The role blends software engineering, computer graphics, GPU programming, and simulation to create scalable rendering pipelines and physically grounded sensor outputs (camera, LiDAR, radar) for visualization, perception, and validation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Graphics, Robotics, or related discipline.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in rendering, simulation, visualization, or graphics-intensive systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop real-time rendering pipelines for digital twin, machine, environment, and jobsite simulation applications.
• Implement physically based rendering, ray tracing, materials, lighting, weather, atmospheric effects, and scene optimization using Unreal Engine and NVIDIA Omniverse RTX.
• Develop sensor rendering capabilities for camera, LiDAR, radar, depth, segmentation for autonomy.
• Build shaders and GPU-accelerated features using graphics APIs and languages (HLSL, GLSL, CUDA).
• Create rendering services, plugins, APIs, tools, and asset workflows using C++ and Python.
• Optimize CPU/GPU performance, memory, frame time, throughput, latency, and visual fidelity.
