Job summary

QuEra Computing Inc. in Boston seeks a Software Engineer for the QPU SW Engineering team to develop software that orchestrates and controls our quantum hardware stack—from real-time control of lasers and FPGAs to system-wide configuration and diagnostics.

You will work closely with physicists, systems engineers, and hardware teams to build scalable software, APIs, and tooling that enable precise, reliable quantum operations and robust system integration.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of software development for hardware control, embedded or distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.
• Experience with hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
• Experience with real-time systems or hardware-in-the-loop environments.
• Familiarity with timing systems (PTP) and communication stacks.
• Proficiency in system integration, testing, and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software for orchestrating quantum experiments, including pulse sequence generation and device coordination.
• Develop APIs and middleware connecting hardware control layers with higher-level orchestration software.
• Implement reliable communication across embedded and distributed components.
• Collaborate with architects and physicists to translate requirements into high-performance software features.
• Contribute to diagnostics, calibration routines, and performance monitoring.
• Develop tooling for automation, test infrastructure, and system state management.
