Job summary

NiSource is seeking a Real-Time Operations Engineer/Specialist to provide direct engineering support for real-time operations. The role involves reviewing anticipated and historical system conditions, using analysis tools, and developing appropriate responses to system conditions on a 24 by 7 rotating shift.

The position requires experience with power flow, transient stability, voltage stability analyses, and EMS tools, along with coordinating with Transmission Planners, EMS engineers, and MISO.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Ability to perform 24/7 rotation shift (12h weekends, 8h weekdays).
  • Understanding of electric power systems theory and principles.
  • Ability to perform planning analyses using PSSE and EMS tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system analysis using power flow, transient stability, voltage stability, and steady-state analysis software.
  • Maintain network topology and equipment databases; apply contingency lists and dispatch patterns.
  • Coordinate system changes with Transmission Planners and MISO; prepare operating plans.
  • Evaluate Bulk Electric System outages and real-time constraint management.
  • Provide compliance focus during abnormal and emergency conditions and assist System Operator decisions.
