Job summary

Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc invites qualified professionals to join as a System Operator responsible for maintaining and operating the Bulk Electric System in real-time. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring stability and reliability across the BES within our expansive network.

You will collaborate with a diverse team—from Power Marketers and Shift Supervisors to System Operators at other utilities—to balance demand and resources and execute real-time reliability tasks.

Qualifications

• Familiar with Bulk Electric System (BES) operations.
• Ability to work rotating shifts.
• Knowledge of transmission operations and generator theory.
• 2–5 years of experience as an Associate System Operator.
• Collaborates with internal and external teams.
• NERC System Operator Reliability Coordinator certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate the BES portion of the system to maintain reliability.
• Operate the Transmission System to maintain voltage profiles and system limits.
• Balance demand with resources within the Balancing Authority Area.
• Collaborate with Power Marketers, Shift Supervisors, and other operators.
• Execute real-time reliability-related tasks to sustain system reliability.
• Communicate effectively to ensure safe BES operation.
• Cross-train in related areas to increase team versatility.
